Spain reaps benefits from FIVB’s coaching support for beach volleyball

Young beach volleyball players get coaching in Spain
Lorca, Spain, March 15, 2019 – Spain’s youth and high performance beach volleyball programmes have enjoyed support from the FIVB Development Projects Platform with the country’s leading teams participating in full-year training at the International Beach Volleyball Center in Lorca.

“The FIVB’s initiative of providing support for the development of beach volleyball in Spain has immensely helped in our progress,” said coach Marco Antonio Stanzani Pires e Albuquerque, who is the head coach of Spain’s youth beach volleyball programme.

“The support has provided us with the possibility of keeping our athletes through a strong, quality programme year-round. The skill level of our players has improved immensely as we have kept the programme running continuously. All coaches and players are motivated to continue the programme and work harder to reach the level of the best teams in the world.”

Spain’s beach volleyball programme this season aims to perfect the advanced individual and team skills of its athletes, including physical performance, tactics, game analysis and fighting spirit, with teams also participating in high-level national and international competitions like FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 1- to 3-star events, the U22 European Championships, CEV Master events and WEVZA Zonal events.

Among those who benefit in the youth division are six boys and eight girls who get a full year training with education, and in the high performance division are four men and two women who get a full year training.

“The support of the FIVB to our high performance project at the International Beach Volleyball Centre of Lorca (IBVC) is recognition of the work we have done,” said Agustin Martin Santos, president of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation.

"Thanks to this support, we can continue offering elite training to our athletes and ensure the presence of world-class beach volleyball coaches. I want to express my personal gratitude to the FIVB and President Ary Graça for the support in developing beach volleyball not just in our country but in the whole world."

The FIVB advises National Federations to apply for support via the 2019 FIVB Development Projects Platform. The Projects Platform helps National Federations get the right support from the FIVB to improve the performance of their national teams, as well as foster the growth of volleyball and beach volleyball in their country. The FIVB supported a total of 74 Development Projects via the 2018 Projects Platform.
