Korean League organises youth competition

Korean Professional Volleyball League (KOVO) organised a competition for kids in December 2018
Seoul, Korea, December 10, 2018 – The Korean Professional Volleyball League (KOVO), through its youth academy, organised the 2018 KOVO Cup at the Gimcheon Arena from December 8-9.

Since 2012, KOVO has been organising tournaments for all students of their youth academy. The youth academy was established with the aim of increasing the number of volleyball fans, as well as spreading out the knowledge about the sport nationally by providing more playing opportunities for the youth.

The tournament is held more than twice a year, one is held during the summer for 80 teams nationwide and another tournament for 40 teams from the KOVO youth academy.

Sports organisations like the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and Korean Sports Promotion Foundation support the youth volleyball development programme.

The KOVO Cup had an increase in participation in 2018, when a total of 46 teams including KOVO’s 38 schools and a total of 820 students and coaches joined the competition.

In a span of 6 years, KOVO has taught 7,500 students and has become a platform for 120 students to pursue a career in professional volleyball.
